Class 2

In Class 2 we have a small group of Year 2 children taught by one full-time teacher - Miss Huntlea. The children are also supported in their learning on Thursday afternoon by one full-time Educational Teaching Assistant. The daily routine in Class 2 involves the children quietly entering school at 8.50 to access the new TV screen to self-register. We are then ready to work in our carousel groups for Phonics and English and then Maths after break.

All the children follow the National Curriculum and in May 2019 the Year 2 children will take their SATs (Standard Attainment Targets) tests and tasks in Reading Comprehension and Maths.

In class 2 we are supported every week by volunteers who listen to children read on an individual basis.  We are also very lucky to have support from parents who willingly help with walks and trips. We have just visited Eureka to learn about Our Bodies and our topics for the rest of the year include - Dinosaurs, Food and Transport.

We believe that with everyone working together as a team, we can ensure that each individual child reaches their full potential in a secure environment.

In Class 2 the children are encouraged to -

  • Learn the essential knowledge, skills and understanding of a broad range of curriculum subjects.
  • Engage with their learning so that they remain committed to learning throughout their school careers and beyond.
  • Develop the personal qualities they need to be good citizens in an ever-changing world.
  • Develop a sense of their own nationality and culture at the same time as developing a profound respect for the nationalities and cultures of others.

The children have collaborated to create a Class Charter for this year to remind them about being respectful and also resilient.

To find out more about Class 2 please have a look at our learning letters and also the curriculum map. Both can be found under the classes tab.
