Class 2

180

In Class 2 we have a mixture of Year one and two children taught by one full-time teacher. The children are supported in their learning by one full-time Educational Teaching Assistant. The daily routine in Class 2 involves the children quietly entering class at 8.50 to access the Interactive White Board to self-register. We are then ready to work in our carousel groups for Phonics, English and Maths. Small groups of children work with an ETA to build up their phonic knowledge using the Read Write Inc. scheme.

All the children follow the National Curriculum and the Year 2’s will take their SATs (Standard Attainment Targets) tests and tasks in 2017.

The Year 1 children will take a Phonics Test in June 2017 to assess their phonic recall.

In class 2 we are supported every week by volunteers who listen to children read on an individual basis.  We are also very lucky to have support from parents who willingly help with walks and trips. We believe that with everyone working together as a team, we can ensure that each individual child reaches their full potential in a secure environment.

In Class 2 the children are encouraged to -

  • Learn the essential knowledge, skills and understanding of a broad range of curriculum subjects.
  • Engage with their learning so that they remain committed to learning throughout their school careers and beyond.
  • Develop the personal qualities they need to be good citizens in an ever-changing world.
  • Develop a sense of their own nationality and culture at the same time as developing a profound respect for the nationalities and cultures of others.

To find out more about Class 2 please have a look at our learning letters and also the curriculum map. Both can be found under the classes tab.
